These are the best wings we’ve had in forever!! They’re saucy and crispy. 10/10 will never get wings anywhere else, the hot honey is the best!!
Overview
Walking into Irish Kevins for the first time, I remember expecting a standard neighborhood pub, but what I found felt more like a local living room where everyone already knows your name. Sitting along Riverside Drive at 47 Riverside Dr, Johnson City, NY 13790, United States, the diner-style pub has become a familiar stop for people who want comfort food without pretense. I’ve been there on slow weekday afternoons and on packed weekend nights, and the vibe somehow works every time.
The menu leans heavily into Irish-American pub classics, but it’s not stuck in the past. You’ll see staples like shepherd’s pie, corned beef and cabbage, burgers, wings, and fish and chips, alongside rotating specials that change with the season. During one visit, the bartender explained how the kitchen adjusts recipes based on customer feedback, a process that mirrors what the National Restaurant Association describes as customer-driven menu development, a method shown to improve repeat visits and satisfaction. That attention shows in small details, like fries arriving hot and crisp or gravies tasting slow-simmered rather than rushed.
What really stands out is how the staff operates. On a busy Friday night, I watched servers coordinate tables without visible stress, keeping drinks filled and food moving steadily. According to hospitality studies published by Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, diners consistently rate service quality as equal to or more important than food quality when deciding whether to return. Irish Kevins seems to understand that balance well, and many online reviews echo the same point: friendly staff, quick service, and a relaxed atmosphere that doesn’t feel forced.
The dining room itself is casual and welcoming, with Irish memorabilia that feels personal rather than mass-produced. Regulars chat at the bar while newcomers ease in without feeling out of place. One regular told me he stops by weekly because it feels like home away from home, and that sentiment pops up often in reviews across platforms like Google and Yelp. While exact review counts fluctuate, the overall tone remains consistently positive, especially regarding value and portion size.
From a food safety and quality standpoint, the kitchen follows standard practices recommended by organizations such as the CDC and local health departments, including proper food handling and sanitation. While most diners don’t think about this while enjoying a meal, it matters, and it’s reassuring to know the basics are handled professionally. That said, like many independently run spots, the experience can vary slightly depending on how busy the night is, and wait times may stretch during peak hours. Being upfront about that sets realistic expectations.
Location-wise, being right in Johnson City makes it accessible for both locals and visitors passing through Broome County. Parking nearby is usually manageable, and the restaurant’s placement near residential areas helps explain its strong community feel. People aren’t just stopping in once; they’re building routines around it.
If you’re the type who values straightforward food, reasonable prices, and a place where conversation matters as much as what’s on your plate, this spot fits the bill. It’s not trying to reinvent dining or chase trends. Instead, it focuses on doing familiar things well, guided by real feedback and day-to-day experience. As one server casually put it during a chat, good food and good people keep the doors open, and that simple philosophy seems to be working just fine here.

We stopped at Irish Kevin's with some friends for some food and a few drinks after an outing. This was a Thursday night and the establishment was not very busy. On this visit we sat at a booth but were asked to come up to the bar to order our food and drinks. Not a big deal as our party was fairly big and there would have been a lot of split checks. On this visit we were looking for simple food and appetizers were half price, so we ordered the chicken tenders app with the thick cut fried potato chips and honey mustard dressing, a side of Mac and cheese, and ordered a round of drinks (side bar: Jack and Cokes are served in a tall draft beer glass here, which is a super positive for me). The food took some time to get to us considering it wasn't busy , but it arrived hot. VERY hot. The chicken tenders tasted good, but I was a bit disappointed in the rest. The thick cut fried potato chips were okay but were salted heavily. The honey mustard dressing skewed quite a bit to the mustard side of the spectrum while I prefer my honey mustard the opposite. The Mac and cheese was probably the most disappointing, being very plain and having no real flavor. As far as bar food is concerned, I put the quality of the food at par. Now, keep in mind we did not touch any of the Irish food that Irish Kevin's has on the menu! The bangers and mash, for example, sounded great but we just weren't feeling it on this visit. There are plenty of other reviews that rave about the Irish food and I would have no problem giving Irish Kevin's another shot to see how they do with a proper Irish course. Overall, our visit to Irish Kevin's was positive. We were able to get dinner on the cheap and while there were some disappointing aspects to the food it wouldn't keep me from coming back to try the Irish selections.
